About

Dan Civico’s design practice produces work spanning a number of disciplines including the design and manufacture of furniture, lighting, large scale public art and site specific commissions as well as interior design and photography.  Dan also is a Lecturer of Interior Architecture and a curator of applied art and design exhibitions.

Civico’s work translates simple ideas into beautifully manufactured structures which investigate the boundaries between art and design, questioning what it is to ‘design’ a structure or ‘create’ a product. He plays with ideas of conformity, perception and preconceived notions of form and function creating engaging often ambiguous objects.

Civico graduated in 1996 from 3D Design BA(hons) at Northumbria University where he went on to successfully co-found the Designer in Residence programme.  After a break from designing Civico re-established his practice in2005 and has built a successful business.  In this time he has worked with, amongst others, the Design Council, Victoria and Albert Museum and Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art as well as exhibiting widely in solo and group shows.
